LSU Let's One Get Away

Another one slips past the goalie.

No, this is not a narrative on Antonio Cromartie's tendency to make women pregnant by driving through their state.

The LSU Tigers have allowed a rather prodigious football talent elude their net for one simple reason.

Jerry Tillery, Jr., 6'7", 315 pound 4-star Class of 2015 recruit out of
6'7", 315 lb, Evangel Junior, Jerry Tillery, Jr.
Shreveport's Evangel Christian Academy, committed to Notre Dame last weekend.  "Little Jerry" as he is called by family, absolutely fell for South Bend's main attraction during his visit according to "Big Jerry", aka, Jerry Tillery, Sr.

The elder Tillery called the show today when the discussion moved to ESPN The Magazine placing 15-year old Dylan Moses (incoming Freshman at University High on the campus of LSU) on the cover of this week's issue.

Moses, a 6'1, 215 specimen, ran roughshod over middle school competition last year thanks to his very adult-like build and 4.6 speed.

Jerry Tillery, Jr. was also a rather nice-sized football player at the age of 15, moving from a size 12 shoe to a size 15 between the 8th and 9th grades.  Tillery has been on the radar for recruiters the past three years, including those from LSU.  For most boys in state, the idea of suiting up in Purple and Gold and running onto the field in Tiger Stadium in front of 93,000 screaming fans is a dream.

Rarely do those dreams come true.  Tillery is one of those who dreamed the dream and is talented enough to make it happen.

One problem.

The Tillery's never heard from
the position coach on LSU's staff
Studrawa: Great Coach...But Did He Drop The Ball Here?
that would be working with "Little Jerry".  Offensive line coach, Greg Studrawa, according to "Big Jerry", never contacted a 6'7", 315 pound, soon-to-be-in-the 11th grade, athletic offensive lineman.

Notre Dame certainly worked the recruiting trail to the Tillery's back door. "Big Jerry" said LSU's lack of attention certainly opened their eyes to other opportunities, leading the Tillery's to Notre Dame, Stanford and Texas A&M as the Big 3 on the board.  A three-day visit to Notre Dame's campus made all other offers moot---the 4-Star (247 sports) people-moving-machine committed to the Fighting Irish.

Tillery will graduate in December of 2014 and suit up for the Irish during their Spring drills in 2015.

It wasn't the Luck Of The Irish that landed this big fish from LSU's pond... a solid effort, a beautiful campus, a winning program back in the spotlight and high quality education laid the foundation.

The Tigers lack of attention just made it much more tolerable.
